Black Afro hair is very difficult to maintain but once you get the hang of it, it is already easy to follow up. The texture of an Afro hair is very dry. It has thick strands and the sebum or oil which is secreted by the sebaceous gland is not enough to compensate for the length of the hair. This is the reason why Afro hair should not be washed and shampooed more than once a week.

There are several hairstyles to choose from.

One can go for clean cut, barber’s cut, long hair or Afro hairstyle. Each hairstyle has its own hair care styles. Among these different hairstyles, the Afro hairstyle has the most specific manner of care.

There are also some who advised that it should not be shampooed at all. Instead, you can use baking soda or some related products in cleansing it.

The Afro hair should always be moisturized. Ensure that there is enough amount of water which is retained in the hair. With the many different hair products intended for the Afro hair, it is easier to look for products like hair sprays, oil shampoos, leave on conditioner and sprays, to serve this purpose.

Another way of moisturizing the hair is by drinking lots of water everyday. Take in at least 1.5 liters of water every day. This will be supplied to the roots of your hair. In addition to this, you can also use shampoo which is not too harsh and does not dry your hair more.

Combing the black afro hair is the next step. When combing your hair, look for appropriate type of brush. Do not use the regular type of comb because it does not suit your hair. Instead, use brushes with blunted cogs to minimize any breakage in the hair. Just like with ordinary hair style, you should also start from the end of your hair going up. You can do this routine, every after you shampoo and while your hair is still wet. During the days when you can not brush your hair, you should use your fingers to fix and design your hair.

One problem with Afro hair is that it produces a lot of tangles. In order to prevent the formation of tangles, it is best to wear a sleeping cap or to wrap your hair with a scarf. Another way is to divide your hair into three and tie it in a pony tail. Instead of cotton pillow cases, invest with satin pillow cases. Satin pillowcases are softer compared with the cotton pillowcases and it absorbs less moisture from the hair. There is also less friction on the hair and satin pillowcases.

You can also avail of a deep and hot conditioner at least once a month. This treatment will make your hair healthier and stronger. It will replenish the lost moisture in your hair. Together with the hot conditioner, you can also request for a scalp massage. The scalp massage will help with the circulation of sanguine.
Lastly, you can also use some vitamin supplements to replenish the vitamins, minerals and amino acids that are lost. Once these elements are provided, repair and damage control is done with your hair.

Here are some suggestions for working with different kinds of hair to create attractive effects.

* Want to accentuate your neck, Audrey Hepburn style? Try a wedding updo. It can be as simple as a French twist or as elaborate as a mass of individually styled ringlets. On the other hand, if an updo requires a lot of help to stay up, it may not be the best hairstyle for a day when it has to stay put and look great for up to 10 hours.
* Having your hair swept up or back is perfect for evening weddings. It also shows more of your face when your guests are seeing only your profile.
* If you want longer or thicker hair, but don’t have time to grow it, use clip-on extensions and hidden hairpieces to add volume and length to your style.
* If you think you’re limited with short hair, think again. You can dress it up with hair clips, decorative bobby pins, combs, or a tiara. You can select a style from soft and curly to sleek and straight, and anywhere in between. For short hair, a curling iron creates fullness in the crown and back.
* Wavy, textured hair can be done in so many ways, from feminine and sexy to earthy and free spirited.
* Bangs are great for hiding flaws or too much forehead. They can be soft, fringy, angled, or textured. If you’ve never had bangs, experiment with them months in advance, in case you decide they’re not for you. If you’ve always had them, this is not the time to sweep them aside and bare your forehead.
* Long hair can be worn back, braided, or twisted with a fabric that matches your gown.
* Medium-length hair can be curled, straightened, tucked behind your ears, or brushed loosely — perfect for daytime or informal weddings.

Styles change with times, so be sure what you pick is both current and right for you. Something may be “in” but all wrong for you or your dress. Or the style might look good on you but be hopelessly out of vogue.
